Is it “okay to still have children?” So asked Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in a video last month. The New York Congresswoman said that people are graduating with thousands of “dollars of student loan debt and so they can’t even afford to have kids in the house.” But she said more than that. She claimed that child-bearing “is a basic moral question” in light of climate change and threats to the environment. She argued there is “scientific consensus that the lives of children are going to be difficult.”
When an American politician asks if it is still okay to have children, this is something to notice. Are you familiar with the progressive movement and their attraction to eugenics? Then you know the score. It’s a short step from “wondering” if it’s okay for people to have children to making laws that forbid children.

Of course, AOC is a devoted Sangerite. And yes it should be disturbing that people in government who support an all-powerful central government (the Bold State) even consider such ideas. The next logical step would be to FORBID people from marrying or having children without the permission of the state. In reality, there is a birth dearth in every Western country with the possible exceptions of New Zeland and Israel. Our democratic experiment continues but may yet be defeated from within by the high birth rate of ignorance, by the growth of ignorance and prejudice (as evinced by AOC herself) by accident or willful indoctrination. Teaching the youth that there is no hope in the future and the world is too terrible to have children is the worst form of pessimism. Traditionalists should feel some hope that they will remain a vital remnant despite the fools who embrace dud-in-the-mud sterile relationships. Demography, in other words, is destiny
